Governmental Structure of Iran

The Supreme Leader of Iran, currently Ali Khamenei, is the most powerful religious and political figure in Iran. The position itself brings lifetime appointment and complete command over the armed forces, judiciary, and other councils.

Popularly Elected

The President and Parliament are popularly elected, Although the Guardian Council can prevent individuals from running. The President is the most powerful popularly elected figure in Iran.

Guardian Council

A group of 12 individuals that approve candidates to run for office and review every bill passed by Parliament. 6 members are appointed directly by the Supreme Leader while the other 6 are appointed by the Chief Justice (who is appointed by the Supreme Leader themselves) but are unlike those appointed by the Supreme Leader in that they must be confirmed by Parliament.
